Weekend watching
I did a little bit of weekend movie watching. And I watched an interesting documentary, narrated by Kris Kristofferson, on
Sam Peckinpah. He directed less than 20 movies, and died after living very hard at the relatively young age of 59, but he left an indelible mark on movies.
It's unfortunate that his early high water mark,
Right the High Country isn't on DVD, but several of his other classics are, including
The Wild Bunch

I also watched
Three Strangers [Info] on
Turner Classic Movies, shown during their Peter Lorre
[Info]
film festival. It is an odd little movie not available at all for home viewing, either on tape or DVD, co-written by John Houston
[Info]
about a woman who picks 2 strangers from a London crowd (of course, these strangers are merely Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet

) to make a wish upon a Chinese goddess, who promises the wish to come true if done with 3 strangers and at the Chinese New Year. The movie then follows the trials and tribulations of our three anti-heroes, who, despite their good fortune end up with all kinds of trouble. A very interesting movie, all in all.
My Netflix rental movie of the week was
The Royal Tenenbaums [Info]
[Rent]
[Buy], which I hope to get a full review written. Boy, am I behind on those! Anyway, it was only okay, barely worth a rental.
