List of scary movies

Boston.com has their Top 50 Scary Movies, posted a couple of years ago. I'm not a huge horror movie fan, but I did start watching them from the top. In fact, my very first Vox post, done Aug. 15, 2006, was about watching The Ring, number three on this list. Ju-on (the Japanese original of The Grudge) was a great scary movie. Really really creepy, even if the director/writer seemed to lose track of time in this chronologically twisted movie. I did also watch Dawn of the Dead but found it one of the worst movies I have ever watched. For the life of me, I can't understand its huge following. It was badly filmed, badly acted and if there was any symbolism, it was lost in the laughable storyline. A terrible terrible movie. I guess Evil Dead II is up next then, but I don't have much hope for it.

Nice! :)  I've seen a lot of these.

I didn't like the original Dawn of the Dead, but the remake was good.  I also really love Night of the Living Dead, which didn't make this list.

I've seen a lot of these and really liked most of them.

I saw the beginning of Dawn of the Dead on cable, and it looked pretty good for  a low budget zombie flick.A movie I would add is Bubba Ho-tep, another brilliant turn by Bruce Campbell. A great blend of horror and comedy.

I'd give the remake a try, for sure. It's a lot more fun and it doesn't take approximately three years to get to the mall. :)

It's weird that they have the sequel to Blair Witch and not Blair Witch itself.  And WILLY WONKA?!  REALLY?!

Actually, I meant that I sawing Night of the Living Dead on cable. I don't know which version of Dawn of the Dead I saw (I think the first one from 78), but I don't think I'll revisit this movie again for a long long time:-)Pretty funny commentary on Wonka and Blair Witch 2.

Oh wow, I love Night of the Living Dead.

The remake had Sarah Polley and a zombie baby.  The original had a helicopter escape and took forever to get to the mall.  (In the remake, I think they were all there within 15 minutes.)

It's interesting that they picked John Carpenter's version of The Thing as #1.  I've always thought that it was a film that didn't get the respect it deserved.  Whenever it's on TV it gets one-star in the paper.  Pretty damn scary, though. And yeah, Willy Wonka??  I could almost see it if they had picked the Johnny Depp version - he *was* pretty creepy.  But Gene Wilder? And the 50's Body Snatchers was definitely better than the 70's one.
The Other
(#48) is one of my all time favorites.  And Night of the Living Dead and
Fallen
absolutely belong somewhere on this list.

Nothing like a list to bring out discussion! I don't think I could choose between the Body Snatchers movies. They each have their strengths. And I too was glad to see The Thing at the top - it's probably the only gory movie that I really love.

I've only seen a couple from your list...I'm not really a scary movie fun...
