Tor e-Books

Tor has a new thing - a weekly free e-book download. This week, it is Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. Next week, it promises to be Old Man's War by John Scalzi. Seems like a good deal!

Sweet, thanks for pointing this out...always a fan for new free books.

[this is good] Nice! Thanks for sharing... :))

Do you still have your original email with the links to the book?  I want to download the HTML version of it, rather than the .pdf - that way I can load it onto my eBook reader instead of having to sit in front of the computer to read it.  I'm assuming there was an HTML version of it, since the email for the book this week included a link to one.

For Mistborn, there was only the PDF version. Old Man's War seems to add the HTML and the 'Mobi' format, which I'm not familiar with at all.

Ahh, ok.  MOBI is for the Kindle (and maybe other eReaders), that much I know.  I guess I'll be stuck reading Mistborn at the computer.  It's an awful long book.  It might get relegated to some of those "I'm on the plane with nothing else to do" times.

FYI, I figured out a kludge around the DRM of their .pdf - print their PDF to another PDF using PDFCreator, and then you can copy/paste from there into anything you want.  So while I don't have the pretty format of the .pdf, at least I can get a text-only version that I can reformat with a script and upload to my eBook reader without hassle.
